Introducing the 1/1 Required Canastas Game Configuration and Real-Time Game Scores!

Two great updates to share with you this past week…

First, we introduced a 1/1 required canasta game configuration. Until now the only option was to play a game where 3 natural / 4 unnatural canastas were required to go out (for a 2-player game) and 4 unnatural / 5 unnatural canastas (for a 4-player game). This is the way my family has always played it. It’s a lot of fun, very strategic, but it’s also long, taking about 1.5 – 2 hours to finish the four rounds of a game.

Many of our HFFE community members requested an option for a shorter game. So now, when you set up a game you are offered a “shorter, more livelier” option of just 1 natural and 1 unnatural canasta being required to go out or the 3/4 or 4/5 option for “longer, more strategic” games.

Second, thanks to a great suggestion from one of our HFFE community members, we launched a real-time round score on the game board. This shows the point value of all the cards melded and canastas made thus far. It’s especially useful if you are in a close game and need to know if you have enough points to beat your opponent before you go out. Remember, though, this score does NOT include how many points are in the hands of your opponent(s) or partner which will be counted AGAINST your score when a player goes out.
